7 simple steps to create your very own gift tags using Canva.

Have you ever considered creating your own gift tags? I have made it easy to do with my A4 gift tag template. All you need is the template and access to a design program such as Canva. In this post I will be showing you how to create your own gift tags with Canva. Join my newsletter to get access to my free template library and follow along!

Step one: Create a new design

Firstly, we want to log in or create an account with Canva. Once logged in we want to create a design. The measurements will be A4 landscape size. (Width 297mm x Height 210mm)

Step two: Upload the Gift Tag Template downloaded from my free template library.

On the art board page, select ‘Uploads’ on the left hand side toolbar. Upload the template file. The ‘Projects’ tab will then display and show you your upload. Click on the upload, it will automatically place into the art board.

Step three: Repeat step two

We want to repeat step two by uploading our illustrations or clipart to add to your gift tags. Adding illustrations and designs can add a beautiful and professional feel to your final gift tag design. Browse my downloadable illustration packs here to add a rustic hand drawn touch to your designs.

Step four: Resize and position

With the upload selected, use the corner nodes to resize your illustration. Select the design and drag it into position within one of the gift tag borders.

Step five: Add text

With your design resized and in position we now want to add some text. Select the ‘Text’ tab on the left hand side. Add your chosen text and select a font that suits the aesthetic you’re going for.

Step six: Duplicate the design or create another.

Select the entire design within the first gift tag template, copy and paste and position into the next gift tag tile. You can otherwise follow the previous steps and create another design altogether. The goal is to fill all of the gift tag tiles with a design so you have a complete A4 sheet of gift tags ready to print.

Step seven: Download the finished design

With all of the tiles filled, we can now download the design.
1. Click ‘Share’ at the top right hand corner, select ‘Download’.
2. We want to select ‘PDF Print’ as the file type.
3. The colour profile should be ‘CMYK’ however if you have the free version of Canva RGB should be suitable however you may notice some difference in colours when printing.

And there you have it! You can now print your own gift tags and add them to all of your gift wrapping for a personal DIY touch.
